Last weekend, I attended Vulture Festival LA, a pop-up pop culture experience, featuring panels with faces of who’s hot in entertainment. I saw – It’s Always Sunny at Vulture Festival, and Natalie Portman: In Conversation – presented by DirectTV Now.
It was really fun to see the “It’s Always Sunny” Gang – Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney, and Danny Devito – interact, and reflect on how much fun it is to work on the show together. I loved how they explained their “just shoot it all” nature of their one-camera show, how it is a “nightmare for the lighting crew” because they are “all on” for every shot. Glenn explained his goal for every scene is to get his costars to break character and crack up. Kaitlin explained the difference between working on “It’s Always Sunny” and her FOX show, “The Mick”. Danny Devito said they have to entice him out of his trailer to shoot his scenes, which he gives them “full reign” on, and he returns to his trailer, back to his computer right after. It’s a great group dynamic – so much fun to watch.
I loved seeing Natalie Portman in person and hearing her thoughts on an array of topics. She mentioned when she got the role of Mathilda in The Professional, her parents wrote out an ironclad agreement, which she is thankful for, that includes the character “must quit smoking by the end of the movie”.
Other featured guests at Vulture Festival included Ava DuVernay, Common, Dave Franco, Danny DeVito, Erika Jayne, Finn Wolfhard, Issa Rae, James Franco, Jill Soloway, Kerry Washington, Lena Waithe, Owen Wilson, Robert Pattinson, Sarah Silverman, Sofia Coppola, Ted Danson, Tig Notaro, Will Forte, Zach Galifianakis, and others.
