A few weeks ago, I finally had a chance to check out Children’s Book World on Pico Boulevard in West L.A. My daughter Aria and I attended the in-store FREE Saturday Children’s event, where they feature a different storyteller, musician, or other educational entertainment each week.
The event I attended was double the fun – it was in Spanish and English! Baila Baila (Izabel Brazon) got the kids dancing and moving to the beat with her fun and educational songs in Spanish. Then, Derek Taylor Kent, read from his bilingual book (with a friend who read the Spanish translation) El Perro Con Sombero. He even brought his dog who did some tricks. After the reading, everyone was welcome to some snacks provided by the venue.
Children’s Book World is one of the few brick and mortar bookstores that still exist during this age of iPads and smartphones. Families really benefit from the wide array of books – from classic favorites to the latest titles. There is also a good selection of books in other languages. I bought Goodnight Moon in French for a friend of mine who is having a baby whose Father is from France! The staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
