My daughter and I had a great time at SoCal Moms‘ Great Big Family Play Day! I’m glad we got there early, because we were lucky to find a parking spot near the grounds of The Autry, where the event took place. (When my husband met up with us after noon, the closest spot he could find was in a lot very far away!)
There were so many things to see and experience. It was a very fun day, where I learned about some new businesses, products, and best of all – listen to some great music! Here are some of my daughter’s favorite experiences today:
Lisa Loeb
We saw Lisa Loeb perform two sets at the event – once at 10:00am, and again at noon. It was a blast from the past (Who does not remember and love “Stay”?), which I was happy to enjoy with my daughter, who will now know Lisa as a cool lady who sang “Father Abraham.” Lisa has a new, exclusively to Amazon CD called Nursery Rhyme Parade! It is a 37-song album of nursery rhyme favorites.
It was so cool to meet her, too!
Kiddie Kuts Salon
Kiddie Kuts Salon offered some hair and beauty services. My daughter had the option of a feather extension or a bead strand. She chose the bead strand. She proudly wore it all day! Kiddie Kuts is located in Sherman Oaks. You can have your own pamper party there! Very cool.
Mini Manicure by Kid Licks organic edible nail polish
When my daughter saw my painted toenails over a month ago, she never forgot them. So when she saw they were offering mini-manicures, she was on board. Normally, I don’t like nail polish on my daughter, but this brand was different. Edible, organic, natural nail polish was new to me and very cool! It’s made of fruits, veggies, and plants and washes off with soap and water! Because it’s in a cute container, it made her feel “grown up.”
Face Painting with Tinkerbell from Enchanted Party Tales
My daughter loves getting her face painted but what she loved more was seeing Tinkerbell! Her favorite thing right now is fairies, and seeing Tinkerbell in real life was a dream come true. Tinkerbell was very sweet and was the highlight of my daughter’s day.

The Yoobi Bus
Yoobi is a fun, bright, kid’s stationery brand which provides a product to a child in need for every product sold. The Yoobi Bus is a fun, interactive, space for kids to get creative. There were plenty of markers, crayons, and paper on hand, and products on display to check out.
The Hollow Trees
The Hollow Trees is an acoustic, folk music band based in Los Angeles that has a lot of energy and is a lot of fun. It was great to see all the instruments on stage, and they really got the crowd going. I have been meaning to check out this band since meeting Traci, the lead singer, over a year ago. She owns The Green Bean, a resale kid’s clothing and product store in Eagle Rock. Now that I’ve heard their toe-tapping tunes, I’m definitely going to make a point to see them perform again.
Books and Cookies
I love how my daughter is always drawn to books and music. That’s exactly what they specialize in at Books and Cookies. Books and Cookies was my first destination for parent-and-me classes when my daughter was young. I’m glad she still loves it at the age of three. I still love books and music, so I hope it will never wear off!

This looks like so much fun!! Is it doable with 2 little ones alone or is it too chaotic?
I saw a few moms with more than one child. I think it depends on your comfort level and their age. If the kids are interested in similar things, that will make it easier!
