Last night, my family and I started celebrating Halloween with a drive-through experience at Haunt ‘O Ween LA in Woodland Hills (about a 40 minute drive in traffic from West Los Angeles, a 30 minute drive without traffic). We got a sneak preview on media night to check it out and share our experience.
Buying Tickets
Tickets are timed and priced at $70 per vehicle. Here are a few tips:
- Have some days and times in mind for when you want to go, as your ideal time and date may not be available
- The earliest admission time is 3pm – highly suggested for babies and toddlers since it won’t be as scary, and you will still be able to get home with enough time for your evening routine
- If you have an SUV or large vehicle, take it! Check out their FAQs page to see what types of vehicles are not permitted.
Dress Up!
My kid LOVES to dress up. When I told her we were “going somewhere special and Halloween-themed,” she immediately picked out a pirate costume from her closet, threw on some boots (that are too big for her), and was excited about what was in store. I even dressed up the baby, because, Halloween!
Line Up
Since tickets are timed, be sure to get there early. Have some games or something to entertain your kid if they get antsy, because I can imagine the line could get a little long. After an easy, touch-less check-in using a QR code, we waited a little over 5 minutes to get in.
Mask-Up
The experience is much better with your windows down, so if you want to do that, make sure everyone (over the age of 2) wears a face mask. My kid ate her dinner in the car, so she rolled up the window when she wanted to take some bites.
Fun Displays and Tunnels
There were plenty of skeletons, lit (but not real) pumpkins, and fun (sponsored) displays. If you are a fan of the FX Television series, What We Do in the Shadows, you might enjoy their themed tunnel.
We got a pumpkin!
When we reached the stop for the pumpkins, we were directed to open our trunk so they could give us a pumpkin. I had no idea how large it was until we got home. Now we have something to carve and make our home feel festive.
Photo Op
I didn’t get it in my inbox yet, but there’s a stop where they take your picture (of you sitting in your car), so you have a memory of the event.
“Trick-or-Treat”
This was my daughter’s favorite part of the experience, and it was the last section. Each themed “house” was a stop for trick-or-treating. Be sure to bring a bag or bucket for your treats! We didn’t, so it was a “pour-over” situation.
