Birthday Parties at the Los Angeles Zoo

This year, the Los Angeles Zoo turns fifty! During their Wild for the Planet media day kickoff last Sunday, we enjoyed a Birthday Party Mini-Expo at Treetops Terrace, where we experienced a sampling of their Birthday Party package offerings.

It was a lot of fun for the kids and adults! If you plan a party here, it will definitely be an unforgettable experience.

Here’s what we experienced:

Locations

The party we attended was held at their largest location: Treetops Terrace, next to the carousel in the middle of the zoo. It is large, shaded, and can accommodate up to 400 guests. Adjacent to it, are Gazebo #1 (up to 40 guests) and Gazebo #2 (up to 80 guests). The additional gazebos were used at the party as well, for face painting and caricatures.

Other location options include Eucalyptus Grove (located closer to the entrance of the zoo), which accommodates up to 200 guests; and Mahale Mountain (located further in the zoo, near the chimpanzees), for up to 100 guests.

Catered Food Options

Everything was served buffet-style, on animal-themed decorated tables. Dessert was delicious (my kid loved the cookies), and drinks (water, lemonade, iced tea) were refreshing.

Package options include:

  • Kid’s Sandwich Board
  • Pizza Package
  • Classic American Buffet
  • Western Barbecue (my favorite!)

Here’s a short video I shot of their set-up.

Flower Crowns

This was a lot of fun for my daughter. They had flowers out on the table and you can pick the flowers, color combination, or have them choose for you. They create your crown while you wait. Flower crowns by crownbloomco.com

Face Painting

The artist took about two minutes to do this. They were quick and talented. The artists for this event were from Goofy Faces (goofyfaces.com).

Here’s a sped-up video I shot of the process:

The artists for the caricatures were also from Goofy Faces (goofyfaces.com).

Animal WalkAbouts

This was probably my favorite party activity! We met a Sugar Glider and a snake! Handlers brought these pettable animals around to each table (and were equipped with hand sanitizer!), and answered any questions about them.

Parties at the Los Angeles Zoo

All party guests must also have a separate admission ticket (or membership) to the Los Angeles Zoo. Discounted tickets are available at group rate prices for parties of 15 or more. There are several different party package options, with “add-ons” available. Contact the Los Angeles Zoo for details on additional fees, pricing, etc.
