Every year, around this time, I get sick. Mainly, I blame it on the drastic weather change, and usually it’s because I make a trip back East. However, this year we didn’t fly out of town, and I’m still feeling miserable.

My mother was never one to buy over-the-counter medication, let alone see the doctor unless necessary. I used to think she was crazy, but now that I’m a mom, I will try everything I can to get better using natural means.

Not leaving the house is a big plus. When I’m sick, all I want to do is stay at home, and curl up in a blanket. Thankfully, I can buy most of the ingredients for my mom’s home remedies from the comfort of my laptop, with Milk & Eggs grocery delivery service.

Witches’ Brew

A concoction using tea, oranges, lemon, and ginger. Adjust to your liking, but here is a basic recipe:

• 1 Lemon
• 1 half-inch chunk of ginger root
• 2 Oranges
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• 1 Bag of Black Tea (optional)

Directions:
Bring about 3-4 cups of water to a boil. Smash or cut ginger root after peeling off skin using a knife or strong vegetable peeler. Place ginger in boiling water and lower temperature to a low boil. Allow to boil for about 10 minutes. While you are waiting for 10 minutes, use a citrus squeezer to juice lemons and oranges and set aside. After 10 minutes, melt honey into the pot until it’s dissolved. Dip tea bag into the pot until desired strength. Then add citrus combination, stir, and enjoy while hot.

Drink this hot at least 3-4 times a day
