Last night, I watched a special media screening of “A Dog’s Journey” at iPic Westwood. I haven’t seen the previous movie, “A Dog’s Purpose”, but it’s not necessary to have seen it before watching this one.
“A Dog’s Journey” follows the lives of a dog originally named “Bailey,” who’s new purpose is to find and protect of his original owner’s grandchild, CJ. This promise takes us on a whirlwind of events that follow CJ’s life and Bailey’s role in it. It’s a sweet, heartfelt movie where we see CJ grow from a child to a woman, the decisions she makes along the way, and how she navigates her moral compass, despite her turbulent upbringing.
Along with a tote bag and some movie swag, the event provided us with “A Dog’s Journey” tissues, as there were several tearful moments in the movie.
If the voice of Bailey sounds familiar to you, it must be because you’re heard it before, as Josh Gad is also the voice of “Olaf” from “Frozen”. If the mom looks familiar to you, it’s because Betty Gilpin also played a single mother in the TV series, “GLOW”.
We don’t currently have a dog, but I grew up having a family dog. This movie reminded me of the good times and sincere affection one can receive from having a faithful furry companion in your life.
“A Dog’s Journey” comes to theaters May 17th
Directed by Emmy winner Gail Mancuso (TV’s Modern Family), A Dog’s Journey is produced by Gavin Polone (A Dog’s Purpose), and written by W. Bruce Cameron & Cathryn Michon, and Maya Forbes & Wally Wolodarsky, based on the best-selling novel by Cameron.
