Over the weekend, my family and I checked out the That’s From Disneyland Pop-Up Exhibit in Sherman Oaks. It’s free to view until the end of the auction, which takes place August 25th and 26th.
Artwork, memorabilia, ride artifacts, and more are arranged by “land” in the former Sports Authority store next to the Westfield Fashion Square Mall on Riverside Drive. This is a collection from private collector Richard Kraft, in partnership with Van Eaton Galleries, not affiliated, endorsed, or connected to The Walt Disney Company or any of it’s subsidiaries.
There were a few fun photo-ops, such as The People Mover, the original “stretch paintings” from The Haunted Mansion, and a car from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. One of my favorite pieces was the giant “D”, from the Disneyland Hotel.
We didn’t get there early enough to participate in the free children’s activities (from 1-4pm Saturday and Sunday), but my daughter had a lot to keep her occupied. She reveled at the giant dragon and mermaid from Submarine Voyage, and we all enjoyed seeing the animatronic parrot from the Tiki Room.
Most auction items are in the thousands, but there were a few things such as old park brochures, which started in the hundreds.
I’d definitely recommend a visit to this pop-up if you’re a Disneyland fan and appreciate history.
