We’re getting our TKD Belts!

I started taking HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) TKD (Tae Kwon Do) Fit class at Tae Ryong Taekwondo School Brentwood (on and off, but most recently “on”) since my friend (and Westside Mommy contributor) Jonna Coleman introduced me to them in September 2015. Recently, my four-year-old daughter started taking taekwondo classes, so Master Quan probably thought it was time I step my training up a notch and earn my belt.

When my daughter took a preschool TKD class about a year ago (when she was three), I decided she wasn’t ready, due to her lack of listening skills at the time. Fast forward to today…what a difference a year makes! After a few classes with the other preschool-aged kids, she earned her white belt…for good listening! Master Quan said some kids (and in this case, my kid) behave better when their parent isn’t present, so I take that opportunity to go on a walk with my friend (another mom) down San Vicente to Starbucks. The long line we see every time doesn’t even bother us 🙂

Now, Tae Ryong Taekwondo School Brentwood‘s second adult morning HIIT TKD Fit class (at 11:00am) includes traditional taekwondo training. I earned my white belt several weeks ago, after memorizing the Tae Ryong Taekwondo creed. June 10th, I will test for my yellow belt! I have to memorize the first form (Taeguk 1), be able to recite the creed, and make sure my moves are correct (and sharp).

  1. What a great healthy activity to be able to share with your daughter! (And a fun way to teach discipline and hard work). Great idea, Westside Mommy!
